The things people ask before signing up.
How is this different from a Thatcham-approved tracker?
Thatcham approval is an insurance industry certification — it can lower your premium but does not guarantee recovery. We focus on recovery itself: a 24/7 UK monitoring team and a 590-strong recovery operative network coordinating with police. We are not insurance-recognised. Many of our customers run both: a Thatcham device for the insurance discount and AAsset Protect for actually getting the vehicle back.
Will I have to renew anything?
The hardware is yours from day one. Monitoring is a yearly subscription, renewed annually on the anniversary of your activation. We notify you 30 days before renewal so you can decide to continue or cancel — no auto-renewal without your active confirmation.
What if I move the car myself outside the geofence?
Your paired phone acts as the authorising signal. If you drive the car with your phone on board, no alert fires. You can also set scheduled "active hours" — for example, daily commutes — during which the geofence is paused automatically.
Can a thief just unplug the device?
If a thief locates the device and disconnects it, the device sends a tamper alert to our centre before going offline. The internal backup battery then sends location updates for up to 72 hours. The device is small and easily hidden — we'll suggest concealment locations specific to your make and model during setup.
What if my vehicle is stolen abroad?
We are a UK-mainland-only service. The device will continue to report its position if it has cellular signal, but our monitoring centre cannot coordinate recovery outside of England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland, Ireland and mainland Europe are not covered.
How accurate is the location?
Typical accuracy is within 5 metres in the open and 10–15 metres in urban environments. The device combines GPS, GLONASS and cell-tower triangulation. In car parks and underground, we fall back to last known position plus inertial dead-reckoning until signal is reacquired.
Will it drain my battery?
No. The device draws approximately 25mA in standby — less than your interior clock and roughly the same as a car alarm. A healthy vehicle battery can sit unused for weeks without depletion concern.
What happens if your monitoring centre goes down?
We run mirrored monitoring across two physically separate UK sites with independent power and connectivity. If the primary centre is unreachable, the secondary picks up alerts automatically with no perceptible gap. Both sites are staffed 24/7.
